A Day at Yankee Stadium

We had an absolutely amazing time yesterday! Our big event for the day was going to a New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox game at Yankee Stadium.

The stadium is in the Bronx which was a surprisingly easy trip for us. We took the tram over to Manhattan and walked just a couple blocks to our subway entry point. We made our way into the depths locating the 4 train heading in the direction we needed. This is Brett’s first ever time riding the subway and I was excited for him to have the experience even if he was a little nervous. He had done his research about the subway, etiquette and staying safe. Well boy were we both surprised when something very unsafe occurred right before us.

Brett was watching something happening behind me and at first I just thought it was usual subway drama/commotion but when I turned around there was a guy IN the subway track, below the platform where you are supposed to stand. We aren’t totally sure what happened but it seemed like he dropped something, phone or wallet? It must have been important for him to jump down there. I was always told/had the mindset that whatever you drop in the tracks can be replaced, your life cannot. The man was then trying to pull himself out of the track, observers were doing their best to help, including a DAD holding his CHILD. The guy in the tracks had to walk to the edge of the tunnel where it seemed like a small ladder or some kind of foothold allowed him to climb out. I distinctly remember seeing him make it onto the platform and then turning my head to the left and seeing the lights of the next train arriving. He had maybe 30 seconds before that train would have hit him. It was so alarming and quite honestly disturbing.

We then boarded the train which was pretty full with so many people headed to the game. It was an easy 5 stops before we got off. The stop for 161/Yankee Stadium is really cool because you aren’t underground. You come out and the stadium is right there.

Our entire experience was amazing, smooth and easy. We hardly waited in line to get in. We hit up the official store which was the most chaotic part of the day but still pretty efficient at the same time. After that it was time to find our seats. We noticed that the staff were all really kind and friendly which feels different from some of our other experiences. Yankee Stadium doesn’t care how big your bag is, or if you pack snacks/lunch for your kid, or bring in unopened bottles of water. It just felt like they are prioritizing the experience of their fans.

Our seats were absolutely incredible!!! And the seats were super comfortable which we were both surprised by! We sat in seats 5 and 6. At first we were confused because they weren’t together, there was a little table between us. This seemed kind of a bummer initially but it worked out so well it was a really nice feature. Another really cool convenience was you could place food and drink orders directly from your seat! It was run through Uber Eats, the staff bring you your food (even offering to get you chips or ketchup), and it took less than 10 minutes to arrive. Again, it feels like the fan experience was really a priority. They also took the time to honor veterans a couple times during the game. A veteran sang the national anthem and it was a beautiful take on the song. Then there was a veteran celebrating his 100th birthday and the entire stadium cheered and honored him. It was really special to see. On top of all of that we got to see 2 home runs (Judge and Torres) and the Yankees beat the Red Sox!

After the game we made our way back to the 4 train heading back to Manhattan. The train was totally packed but a super easy ride and so convenient we didn’t have to take multiple trains. No other disturbing events happened on this ride. 😊

We had such a fun day! We would definitely do that again if given the opportunity!
