Yesterday Brett and I had an incredibly lovely day honoring our 5th wedding anniversary. It’s been such an indulgence for us to sleep in and not feel pressured by everyday life and our busy schedules and we are enjoying every moment of it!
We started our day by checking out the ferry that departs directly from Roosevelt Island. I really wish I had gotten a video of the ferry coming into the dock because this person was a freakin pro! They literally drifted the giant ferry boat to its docking point. It was very impressive! It’s a really well organized system, I don’t think they stop for more than 5 minutes. They also have an app specifically for the ferries where you can plan your route and purchase your tickets which stay valid for 120 minutes. This allows you to hop on/off as many ferries as you need within that time. It seems like a fairly efficient was to skirt around the city depending on where you need to go.

As noted yesterday, Kate loves novel transportation so she was overjoyed when Brett agreed to ride the ferry. It was a really nice day out and of course Kate wanted to sit up top on the sun deck. When the ferry gets going there is a really nice breeze and the views are spectacular. We ended up going just a few stops south of us to Brooklyn. The views back toward the city were awesome and it was noticeably more quiet and less busy across the river. We took a short walk and looked at a couple shops before we headed back.

On our way back we got a much better view of the Pepsi Co sign. We can see it from our hotel but this was a much better look. It reminds me so much of my Dad (IYKYK), it a fun thing to see. The sign was constructed in 1940 and originally sat atop the Pepsi bottling factory near by.

When we had been walking around the park/5th Ave we had seen a really pretty restaurant, Avra. It looking like it had a nice interior but Kate was captivated by the outdoor dining area, it looked so magical. Brett did an amazing job noting the restaurant and ultimately making reservations for dinner there. It really had a diverse menu that suited both of our tastes and desires.

Our waiter was lovely and we had an incredible evening! We thought that it might be noisy given the outdoor dining was right on the street but they did an amazing job insulating it from the noise. It was so nice to have such a luxurious meal, to dedicate the time to each other and honoring the day of our wedding.

We started with shrimp cocktail and I wish we had gotten a picture because as Brett said, they were the size of Rusty’s lil legs!! Brett had a Wagu Rib Eye with oregano fries and Kate had a Branzino prepared in a traditional Greek style with Ladolemono sauce and grilled veggies. We were far too full to consider dessert but it was out of this world!

After dinner we took the tram back to the island which was a fun and pretty way to also see the city at night.

Brett, thank you so much for going on this adventure with me! I’m so grateful for the time we take to travel and to spend with each other away from our normal day to day lives. The last 5 years have been wonderful, we’ve both grown so much individually as well as together. I’m incredibly proud of the work and time we’ve invested in our marriage. This is a journey not a destination and I’m excited to walk together. Cheers to many more years of adventure, laughter, some tears, and finding the awe in life!
WOW — what an awesome Anniversary !!!!
