As all official first days of vacation should start we slept in and took our sweet time making it out into the world. We of course had to have NYC bagels for breakfast. Here you don’t get a bagel with cream cheese but rather a “cream cheese sandwich” and it was absolutely delicious!

Our day started by hopping on the Roosevelt Island tram. Kate has an affinity for novel transportation methods so she really enjoyed the tram. It was really smooth, great views and took only a few minutes to cross. They also have it connected with the standard metro ticket system which makes it incredibly easy.

Once off the tram we made our way to Central Park. We had a lovely time walking around the park and taking time to sit and enjoy our time together. There was great people watching, some fun water wildlife like ducks and turtles and then…….there were the rats!!! Eeekkk!! There was definitely a nest living their best lives in the greenery and hoarding all the trash they find. The park also has a huge amount of pickle ball courts and very few were empty.

After our time in the park we meandered on 5th avenue. There were so many beautiful displays and impressive buildings! Most of the shops were beyond our price range but we enjoyed window shopping nonetheless. We even found some special New York items to take home for ourselves. It took us a surprising amount of time to scope out this part of the city but the weather was perfect (almost too warm) to wander and get lost. We even had the obligatory NY hot dog from a street stand to hold off our hanger.

We eventually made our way back to our hotel to cool down and rest our feet. We decided it would be nice to treat ourselves to some delivery pizza. After conferring with the One Bite app we found a highly rated authentic Italian pizza place: Rosario’s in Astoria. It was an absolutely delicious way to end our day!
