We began our day much like the day before, allowing ourselves to wake up without concern for time. Probably much as honeymoons really should be spent. Interestingly, we noticed that the sun did not seem to come up until much later than we had expected. Even at 7 AM it would still be dark outside and the sun would not fully come up until closer to 8. We again fixed coffee and breakfast at home and enjoyed our morning. We headed up the road to the local market to pick up more water for our stay. In the market we met the owner who is the most fantastic Greek woman! She told us of all the baked goods that they make behind the store and kindly explained each of the ingredients including which items would have egg and which were safe. Although we had eaten breakfast I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try one of her homemade strawberry brioche rolls (sorry Brett!). She wrapped it up so that I could have it for a snack later. When she found out we are American she got very excited and seemed genuinely happy to have American visitors. She made us promise to come back to enjoy more baked goods from her store, which we would have no problem holding up our end of the deal!

We went back to the house to put on our swimsuits and head out for the day. This time we drove to the east side of the island to check out one of the more spectacular beaches Corfu has to offer. As is characteristic of the island we had to descend a steep, narrow and winding road down to the beach. When we arrived it was pretty quiet with just a handful of other people adorning the beach. It was rather small and in the height of summer we could imagine it being very crowded. It was very nice to be there with such a small group of people, we each had our own little camps to take in the sun and enjoy the waves. The water here was absolutely pristine! It was very clear and turquoise. The shore was rocky but the beach was made up of small polished pebbles. The water was a bit cool but after baking in the sun it felt great! This was definitely a popular spot for snorkeling and scuba diving as there were so many fish even in the shallows. Knowing there was snow in the imminent future for Colorado it made the sun feel that much warmer and the sea breeze that much sweeter. Slowly the sky behind us started to turn a dark purple and a microburst became visible. We knew we wouldn’t have much time before the storm would be upon us. There was a nice cafe bar just up the hill from the beach so we decided to grab a snack and watch the storm roll in. We had such an enjoyable time talking to the owners and staff and the couple other guests who where still lingering. We had the best chips (fries) that we’ve ever had! It was like they used a thick peeler to slice the potatoes into little curls. We chatted with the owner who told us about the homemade waffles his shop is known for and letting us know that whenever we need a snack and a drink their cafe is the place to be! We enjoyed our snack and drinks while we watched them hustle about collecting all of the patio cushions so they would not get wet. It was not long before the rain arrived and all out poured! With the last of the guests leaving we decided to be on our way as well.

Brett kindly braved the roads to get us back home. With the rain the humidity stepped it up a few notches and we were having a difficult time keeping all the windows from fogging up! In addition to this, the potted and damaged roads were collecting the rain water making the drive a bit more slow-going that normal. At one point we barreled through a giant puddle as we rounded the corner spraying water everywhere – thankfully not on the engine which could have been quite bad! We made it back home to enjoy some R&R from our beautiful apartment. Just before the dinner hour the rain stopped and the sun came out for the last couple hours of the day. It left a gorgeous view out our window, the trees humming with hydration, animals coming back out, and the hills draped in a fine mist. This time we tried the second restaurant in town. We believe it was owned by an Italian family who were very nice to us. Brett enjoyed a margarita pizza and I had a traditional Greek dish calls Souvaki. All the while we ate, we watched the local kids playing in the square enjoying the small entertainments in life. After we finished our meal they offered us an apperativo of a traditional Corfuion liquor made from kumquats. It was very good!! We had our fur-friend escort on our way home and had to sneak our way back into the apartment so not to let our friends in where they should not be. It was such an enjoyable day and we were ready to hit the hay to rest up for the next adventure!
