Ahoj Praha!!

We had a fun day yesterday transitioning from Brit life to Bohemia. We started our day at a decent time, packed our bags, and trekked out to find the giant Emirates Stadium. It’s kind of amazing that such a large venue can be nestled around the city. You can hardly see it until you are upon it! We snapped a few pics and took a gander around the store. We were there right when it opened and so was a giant teen football (soccer) team. They were pretty stoked to at the stadium and were jazzed for the tour they were about to take. Unfortunately we did not have time for the tour and had to head to the tube on our way the other London airport which was across town.

We navigated the tube much more successfully this morning and luck was on our side as we bought tickets and hopped on the tube and then the train with just enough time. A little delay and we may have missed the train to the airport. The airport, Standsted, was very busy and we were ushered like cattle through the security queue and checkpoint. Oddly enough, we found that no one checked our passports until we boarded the plane which we found a bit strange given DIA checks it 2-3 time before you get through security. By design you generally get food and do shopping in an area right after the security checkpoint however this is also a trap that many passengers fall into, not realizing their gate is a 7-10 minute walk. Of course, that would never happen to us. :) We did make it to our gate on time and boarded the plan without issue.

It was a short 1.5 hour flight to Prague (Praha) which was nice to have a quick nap and prepare for the next adventure. Our AirBnB host arranged for someone to pick us up at the airport. He had our name on a sign and the whole process was very easy especially since we did not check our bags. We had our first ride in a Skoda Superb town car which is kind of like the Kia of Europe however the quality is on-point. It was a very nice ride with a driver who had aggressive driving skills to say the least. We certainly broke a few rules of the road as we made the drive into the city. Due to traffic he had a pretty creative route which allowed us to see so smaller parts of the city which was nice. He also told us which historic places to see including a lesser known castle which is the oldest in Europe, 1500 years old.

As we got close to our apartment we came across a bridge with a full view of the Dancing House. It’s a very cool architectural piece which is just about 2 blocks away from us. We are also only about a 10 minute walk from the famous Charles Bridge. Due to the long and tiring day we went down to the mini-mart below our apartment for provisions and decided to hunker down in our quaint apartment to enjoy some good ole’ Netflix.

Today we are exploring Praha and plan to wander to our hearts content. We both woke up wayyyy too early (3 AM!) and couldn’t fall asleep for quite some time. Instead we chatted about our trip so far and what is coming up before eventually falling back asleep. We slept in and are taking some coffee and enjoying our morning before its off to the foot race. It’s supposed to be a beautiful day and we are excited to enjoy it!
